    Statistical analysis of low level atmospheric turbulence

    The statistical properties of low-level wind-turbulence data were obtained with the model 1080 total vector anemometer and the model 1296 dual split-film anemometer, both manufactured by Thermo Systems Incorporated. The data obtained from the above fast-response probes were compared with the results obtained from a pair of Gill propeller anemometers. The digitized time series representing the three velocity components and the temperature were each divided into a number of blocks, the length of which depended on the lowest frequency of interest and also on the storage capacity of the available computer. A moving-average and differencing high-pass filter was used to remove the trend and the low frequency components in the time series. The calculated results for each of the anemometers used are represented in graphical or tabulated form

    Cross-Correlation-Function-Based Multipath Mitigation Method for Sine-BOC Signals

    Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) positioning accuracy indoor and urban canyons environments are greatly affected by multipath due to distortions in its autocorrelation function. In this paper, a cross-correlation function between the received sine phased Binary Offset Carrier (sine-BOC) modulation signal and the local signal is studied firstly, and a new multipath mitigation method based on cross-correlation function for sine-BOC signal is proposed. This method is implemented to create a cross-correlation function by designing the modulated symbols of the local signal. The theoretical analysis and simulation results indicate that the proposed method exhibits better multipath mitigation performance compared with the traditional Double Delta Correlator (DDC) techniques, especially the medium/long delay multipath signals, and it is also convenient and flexible to implement by using only one correlator, which is the case of low-cost mass-market receivers

    Determining the strange and antistrange quark distributions of the nucleon

    The difference between the strange and antistrange quark distributions, \delta s(x)=s(x)-\sbar(x), and the combination of light quark sea and strange quark sea, \Delta (x)=\dbar(x)+\ubar(x)-s(x)-\sbar(x), are originated from non-perturbative processes, and can be calculated using non-perturbative models of the nucleon. We report calculations of δs(x)\delta s(x) and Δ(x)\Delta(x) using the meson cloud model. Combining our calculations of Δ(x)\Delta(x) with relatively well known light antiquark distributions obtained from global analysis of available experimental data, we estimate the total strange sea distributions of the nucleon.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures; talk given by F.-G. at QNP0

    A Killing tensor for higher dimensional Kerr-AdS black holes with NUT charge

    In this paper, we study the recently discovered family of higher dimensional Kerr-AdS black holes with an extra NUT-like parameter. We show that the inverse metric is additively separable after multiplication by a simple function. This allows us to separate the Hamilton-Jacobi equation, showing that geodesic motion is integrable on this background. The separation of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation is intimately linked to the existence of an irreducible Killing tensor, which provides an extra constant of motion.     Photon radiation effects on CdS/CuInSe2 thin film solar cells

    The unknown tolerance of CuInSe2 cells to proton irradiation, was tested. It was shown that CdS/CuInSe2 solar cells have an inherent tolerance to irradiation by 1 MeV electrons up to at least 2 x 10 to the 16th power electrons/sq cm. Eleven, unencapsulated, 1 sq cm cells deposited on alumina substrates were irradiated with 1 MeV protons at normal incidence. The cells were exposed to six fluences ranging from 2.5 x 10 to the 10th power protons/sq cm to 5.0 x 10 to the 13th power protons/sq cm. After each interval of exposure, the cells were removed from the radiation chamber to undergo current/voltage characterization. It is shown that none of the cells electrical characteristics exhibited any degradation up to and including a fluence of 1 x 10 to the 11th power protons/sq cm. At fluences greater than this, the damage to the CuInSe2 cells V sub oc and fill factor (FF) was more severe than that exhibited by the Isc. The CuInSe2 cells proved to be approximately a factor of 50 more resistant to 1 MeV proton irradiation than silicon or gallium arsenide cells. Annealing of a CuInSe2 cell at 225 deg C for 6 minutes restored it to within 95% of its initial efficiency
